Data migration involves the setup of system master files, which includes; debtors, creditors, general ledger chart of accounts and inventory. Information for the master files comes either from the client existing accounting software, or from other manually kept files, such as excel spreadsheets. Whilst setting up master files, it is often a good opportunity to clean up any data that is either inconsistent, obsolete or implementing a new set up that will provide value within the new solution. These decisions are made during the solution design stage. Depending on the availability of internal resources, it often saves times and consulting time if client staff were available to assist in data cleaning.
Once the master files are complete, the migration process also includes the transfer of any open invoices and account balances which come from the client existing accounting solution.
